Iwi leaders seek changes to the Marine and Coastal Area Bill

According to Tainui leader Tukoroirangi Morgan  iwi are unhappy with the Marine and Coastal Area Bill, which is now before the Māori Affairs Select Committee.

Mr Morgan says the Foreshore and Seabed Act debate won’t be over until a suitable replacement comes out of Parliament.

The Iwi leaders group intend to continue lobbying the Crown to get the changes that are necessary to make the bill beneficial for Māori.

Mr Morgan says as well as the select committee process, the relationship that the Iwi Leaders Group has formed with the Government means the Māori case can be strengthen.
