Appointments and Awards of Note – 12 August 2016 (edition 28/2016)

 

  • Tony Dowling has been appointed as Chief Executive of Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi-O Ngāpuhi. He will commence the role in November.
  • Warwick Tauwhare-George (Ngai Tahu, Tainui) has been appointed as Chief Executive of Parininihi Ki Waitotara.
  • Charlie Tepana has been appointed to the board of Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Maori / the Māori Language Commission.
  • Glen Hawkins (Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Maniapoto) has been appointed to the board of the Māori Television Service.
  • Diana Puketapu (Ngāti Whatua) has been appointed to the board of the Tamaki Regeneration Company (a Government company).
  • The Para Kore Programme, run by Jacqui Forbes, received an Energy Global award this week, for its programme focused on reducing waste at marae (via the establishment of recycling and composting systems).
  • Patricia Grace has won the 2016 Te Kura Pounamu award for best Māori language book, with Whiti Te Rā. (These are awards for New Zealand writing for children and young adults).  Whiti Te Rā was translated by Kawata Teepa.
