Appointments and Awards (edition 19/2014)

  • On Monday Queen’s Birthday Honours were announced.   This list included:

DNZM (Dame Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit):

  • The Honourable Lowell Patria Goddard, QC, of Wellington. For services to the law.
  • Ms Patricia Lee Reddy, of Wellington. For services to the arts and business.  (Dame Patricia is not Māori but is involved in a number of Treaty of Waitangi settlement processes.)

CNZM (Companions of the New Zealand Order of Merit)

  • Professor Jonathan Ngarimu Mane-Wheoki, of Auckland. For services to the arts.
  • Distinguished Professor Graham Hingangaroa Smith, of Whakatane. For services to Māori and education.
  • Dr Huirangi Eruera Waikerepuru, of New Plymouth. For services to Māori.

ONZM (Officers of the New Zealand Order of Merit)

  • Mr Riki Herengitana-Cherrington, JP, of Invercargill. For services to Māori and education.
  • Mr Rangitane Marsden, of Whangarei. For services to Māori.
  • Ms Kataraina O’Brien, of Tauranga. For services to Māori and the community.
  • Mr Samuel Phillips (Haami Piripi), of Kaitaia. For services to Māori.
