Last Friday an arbitration panel appointed by the Whakarewarewa Joint Trust announced that Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Wahiao will share 50:50 ownership of the 70 hectare Whakarewarewa Valley Lands. The interim decision will see the two iwi share equal ownership of Te Roto-a-Tamaheke, Whakarewarewa Thermal Springs and Southern Arikikapakapa Reserves.
