This week the Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Māori Wards and Māori Constituencies) Amendment Bill passed its third reading in Parliament and will become law once it gains Royal Assent. This incomig law effectively repeals existing provisions relating to Māori wards in local government and reverts back to pre-2021 legislation.
