  • Mana Mokopuna / The Children and Young People’s Commission has released a report indicating significant concerns continue to exist with the quality of protections in the child wellbeing sector. We will review this report in Pānui next week.

  • The Gang Legislation Amendment Bill is proceeding through its second reading in Parliament (Pānui 6/2024 refers).
  • Treaty of Waitangi Minister, Paul Goldsmith, has announced that the Government is proposing new legislation to overturn a Court of Appeal ruling relating to the Marine and Coastal Area Act / Takutai Moana. He considers this is necessary to restore Parliament’s high-bar test for customary marine title.  We will review this matter and provide commentary in Pānui over the coming weeks.
