Key Māori news stories for the week ending 15 June 2012

  • On Wednesday the Office of the Auditor-General announced an inquiry into the process used in relation to the proposed building of an international convention centre.   (The process was administered by the Ministry of Economic Development, and has led to negotiations between the Government and Skycity.)  The inquiry is in response to a complaint by the Green Party.  (For further analysis of the Sky City proposal and Māori interests refer to Pānui E12/2012).
  • Atareta Poananga has been struck off the barristers and solicitors roll after being found guilty of charges of forgery and filing false declarations, in relation to Waitangi Tribunal claims.  She remains on the Tairāwhiti District Health Board.
  • Te Kapenga M Trust won the Ahuwhenua Trophy (Māori farming) award, last Friday. Tangaroa Walker was the winner of the cadet trainee award.
